The music is everything

Among half a million students around Australia singing the same song at the same time on the same day on 22 October were students at East Victoria Park Primary School.

The school was one of nearly 2000 schools taking part in Music, Count Us In, a program to promote the value of music in schools.

The 2009 song, called 'The Music is Everything', was written by four NSW secondary students in a songwriting workshop led by John Foreman.

East Victoria Park Primary School has a strong music tradition with principal Neil Spence and deputy principal Christine Ritchie winning the school leader award in the 2009 National Awards for Excellence in School Music Education, the only WA honours. The school's music program has grown enormously and now has sessions every week for every student from Years 1 to 7.
