Secondary Metrics

Secondary Metrics
The Department has developed a set of secondary school performance metrics to measure student success as defined by individual progress as well as Year 12 outcomes. These metrics provide schools with targeted information to strengthen their focus on improvement and help celebrate year-on-year success. They measure student achievement more meaningfully in the context of our strategic directions and priorities, particularly in relation to the aspiration for every student to fulfil their learning potential.
The 3 metrics are:
Retention – the % of students who start Year 7, and six years later finish Year 12.
Completion – the % of students who start Year 11, and two years later achieve a WACE.
Progress and achievement – the % of students whose Year 12 achievement meets thresholds linked to their Year 9 NAPLAN results.
The secondary metrics functions in Reporting to Parents will support schools with the progress and achievement metric.
