Conventions In order to distinguish between different items in the text that you need to know about, this guide makes use of a number of special character and paragraph styles. Conventions provide a visual hint that informs you of the nature of the item, and these conventions are used consistently throughout the guide. Typographical Conventions Typographical conventions are slight changes to the typeface and font weight of certain paragraphs or words and characters. Words and Characters The conventions are as follows: Text that looks like this. Means this. Find a Student The title of a screen or screen component; it can be a window name, a menu name or a dialogue box name. Student Name: Text that appears on a screen as an option or as the label of a text entry field. Examples include menu options, field and button names.
